For good or bad, technology keeps changing and becoming more complicated. Keeping up with what’s going on in digital photography seems so time-consuming and frustrating.
That also means that I have to relearn the parts of Photoshop that were redesigned and updated to today’s standards. I often wonder why a program has to be redesigned so “well” that I can’t do the same thing in the same way I used to. It’s great that they add more to Photoshop that gives different effects to photos, i.e., instead of just having an oil paint feature I can also paint/produce photos made to look like a watercolor. However, I wish they would leave the way to access the earlier features ALONE and just add on a new tab or button to enhance the feature. For example, I had figured out how to cut and paste two photos together when I made Night mirage. However, a year or two later, they decided to change the way to cut and paste, so I’m going to have to relearn this feature. Although I know photography has come further than what Ansel Adams had, (As far as I understand, he had a detailed diagram of each photo to use for burning and dodging in the dark room.) and even though I miss having a more hands-on approach in the dark room to each photo, I have saved time and gas money by not driving to the community darkroom on the Syracuse University campus in NY. So, even though it’s frustrating, I keep searching and watching Adobe Photoshop videos. If I get really frustrated, I email a friend or call Adobe to help me. What about you? What resources and people do you use to keep up with technology?
