Do you have a shop till you drop mentality?

Unfortunately, Christmas like many other holidays, has become so commercialized that it distracts from its true meaning. Instead of being still and meditating on God coming to earth and being born as a human being, TV commercials rush us into the question of: “What are you getting the people you love for Christmas?” or “What are your loved ones giving you for Christmas?” (It’s this kind of selfish talk that makes me wonder if God is throwing up into a bucket somewhere.) No, I’m not against gift-giving, parties, or sending Christmas cards. These can all be great things to do this season. What I’m encouraging everyone to do is just to stop and reflect on what God has done for you. Take some time from all of the hustle and bustle of the season and just reread the Christmas story from the Bible. It can be found in the books of Matthew and Luke. A little bit can be seen in Mark and John. I promise that reading this will not diminish your Christmas experience but will add something extremely important to it.
