Just when worry has you in its grasps...DON'T (part 1)

6/30/24

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:34

I’ve often had that fear of, “What’s going to happen today?”, or anxiously waiting for the other shoe to fall.  There are many reasons this is not a good year for me.  In February a very close family member died.  Then, my husband and I had to deal with several difficult financial situations, which caused me to cut back on some of my art business expansion since I need to keep running my cleaning business.  The two artists who were deciding to sell their profitable business to me have decided to put a pause on doing so.  I know we need a new car some time, but I just didn’t expect the car to break down on the expressway to a business meeting with Launch SA about how I can improve my art business.  As I was waiting by the side of the road hoping the car won’t be totaled, I was wondering what other bad things are going to happen now.

However, God has a solution for that in Matthew 6:25-34.  Don’t worry about tomorrow…WAIT, what?  Perhaps you are thinking, “How can I not worry?”  It’s a reaction that I’ve had for years, yet God says don’t worry about the bad things that may happen next.  I’ve been training for years on how not to worry, and I’m not perfect.  However, I’ve learned to do it less and less.  Here’s one way that has helped me stop worrying, contemplating what good worry is not going to do for me.  God reminds us that it won’t add one hour to your life.  Here are also some things that worry doesn’t do for me:  help me get a good night sleep, have a good time, or even fix a problem.  It’s also bad for our health and may strain our relationships with others, including God.

I could continue on the disadvantages of worry and how to stop it, but I’d rather hear from you first.  What are the disadvantages of worry for you?  I’m also wondering if you can teach me some strategies I haven’t thought of yet of how to deal with worrying.  Then, I will continue on part 2 of worry and what happened to the car, my husband, and myself next month.
