It’s getting to be that time of year when flowers of all shapes and sizes pop up in overgrown fields or by the ditch in your yard. I always enjoy seeing them but may not know the name or remember how long they will be around. If you want to identify the kinds and times of year that they grow, you now have a variety of ways to do so. I want to mention a few of these ideas:
1.)Visit a wildlife center near you. They may have have books, graphs, maps, and etc. to find the info you are looking for. Also, they should have some staff on hand to answer your questions. I like the Baltimore Woods nature center in Marcellus, NY. They have guided nature walks at certain times of the year with someone who talks about the flora and fauna while you walk.
2.)The WWW is always a great place to look for information. Often times, I use this info for my blogs and to find out more about where the wildflowers are growing before I hop in the car with my camera. But be careful, some sites or people may appear as an expert but will give out the wrong information. Take time to research where accurate wildflower information is found.
3.)See if there is a group in your area or on the WWW who get together to talk about wildflowers that grow in your state. Getting a real live knowledgeable person is a big plus. If they can’t answer your question right away, they can research it and get back to you later or can at least tell you where to find the information you need.
